Eat More Donuts, Says Sugar Monster

It’s donut Friday today. Most of you don’t need that warning. Also, tonight we have a stellar art show featuring works inspired by Tee & Cakes from local artist Aya Tanaka. Please come by and support the local art scene tonight at 6:30pm. The artist will be giving away a free cupcake to all who attend and the fine owners of Tee & Cakes will be providing adult beverages to whet your whistle.

Despite Sugar Monster’s moniker, the word sugar is more the appropriate tag. More sweet and curious and hardly a monster. But cute as all get out nonetheless. There are stuffed animals and art for sale. Come one, come all!

This is a sneak peak of one of a more than a dozen works the artist is showing tonight. And if  you know our donut Fridays, you know what donut this is inspired by and what it’s called. First person to get the answer to me in the a.m. (brian the barista) will get coffee and a donut on me. Werd.

Art Show This Friday! Aug. 6th

Aya Tanaka is the artist, Sugar Monster the muse.

In 1878 three Sugar monsters visited the planet earth. they discovered the delights of sweets and tea. since then millions of sugar monsters have migrated to earth. not too many people know this because they live inside clouds, mostly the ones that are puffy and white, not storm clouds. when storm clouds come sugar monsters tend to hide in english tea shops or inside of mount fuji in japan. This might sound strange but it’s the truth, and if you really think about it you can see it really is true. :)

Anyway, I digress. Aya tanaka, a local resident in Boulder, colorado, has channeled the spirit of these cute little (and slightly odd) sugar monsters for our benefit. so gather around and enjoy a nice cup of tea and perhaps a cookie or two. Soon enough you’ll be say’n, “i love sugar monster”!

Sugar! arigatoo!

Art/Aids Auction

Boulder’s largest art auction, the bi-annual “ArtAIDS” silent and live auction, is taking place Saturday, April 17 at the Canyon Gallery & Theater in the Boulder Public Library.

“ArtAIDS”, which was first held in 1996, has evolved to become a premier art auction in the Boulder-Denver metropolitan area, with an enthusiastic crowd of art lovers (an expected 250 attendees this year) and a wide variety of original art from regional and national artists. Works presented will include art in all media, including paintings, sculpture, prints, ceramics, jewelry and even a sampling of the culinary arts.

The auction will once again benefit the Boulder County AIDS Project (with 100% of the proceeds going towards BCAP’s HIV/AIDS educational and relief services in and around Boulder County).

Plan to attend this fun, vibrant showcase for regional & national artists, which this year coincides with BCAP’s 25th anniversary.

New Art Up in the Shop

One of our customers — an avid coffee drinker  and donut fan — happens to be a great artist as well. This is his first showing of art and it’s looking sweet. Come by to check out the other piece. Both are 6+ feel long and have a great look and feel to them in person.
