We will be closed on Monday, November 7. While we know this is an inconvenience and we apologize for the trouble, it’s for a fantastic reason that will only make our little shop a better place.

We are getting a new pastry display case! (hooray) Our current one is being sent to a farm to live out the rest of its tired years. Our new recruit is bigger and better, allowing us to provide even more new sweets and pastries.

FIREFLY MARKET

Firefly Handmade never lets down. This is a super cool indie craft event held a few times a year. This is our second time participating in the event and each time we get to meet some great crafty peeps, see our awesome regular customers and have a ball. Over 60 More photos HERE.

This fall we decided to a do it yourself cupcake decorating bar. This went off without a hitch for the kids and the growns-ups got almost as excited, too. We also debuted our new letterpress venture with postcards, greeting cards and bookmarks. The letterpess stuff is now available in the shop and soon to be online, too. Keep on the lookout for another Firefly Handmade around Christmas time.

WHAT A COOL WEEK: BRANDI CARLILE & LETTERPRESS TYPE TRUCK EVENTS!

We were honored to host Brandi Carlile for a private acoustic set at Tee & Cakes. It was a great night. There is nothing like an intimate, stripped down set of a powerful musician. Additionally, the chef was asked to create a cake for Brandi and she loved it! Check out plenty more photos from the event on our Facebook page. There’s even a photo of Brandi taking a photo of herself with the cake!

Earlier in the week we were invited by our friends at The Makerie and Bird Dog Press to be a part of the Creative Coffee series they host. This was another super fun event and really inspiring. Common Threads was mighty nice to host the event in their parking lot. Check out more photos HERE. The type truck gave everyone a chance to see how letterpress is done and to take home a print. We supplied the coffee and cupcakes, donuts and cheddar basil biscuits to get everyone jump started the the type truck took care of the rest. We love our job!

Record Store Day Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, April 16, is Record Store Day. This is a great way to get out and support local, independent business. Tee & Cakes has donated some gift cards and tees to Absolute Vinyl… 4474 North Broadway, Boulder, CO 80304. Event starts at 11 a.m.

Tee & Cakes is big on music and love us some vinyl. I take a lot of vinyl I get from local record stores and convert the records to MP3 to play in the shop. We have a huge collection of music on the shop iPod and you never know what you will hear when you walk in.

The Great Salt Pyramid!

We discovered this perfect salt pyramid when we were rummaging around in our secret salt stash st Tee & Cakes today. As much as we are pruveryers of fine sweets, many of our treats have salt dashed on top of the icing such as salted caramel and the peanut butter crunch cupcakes. It balances out some sweet with some salty and as a natural flavor enhancer it suits our cupcakes and cookies very well. This here pyramid is a modern miracle of salt. It’s like when a snowflake falls ever so perfectly with all six sides symmetrically nestled in a cradle of nature’s perfection.

Happy Belated Raqwel!

Rock-Steady Rachel (Raqwüel) had a birthday this past Monday, which is totally awesome. Fresh off a wild trip to San Antonio (so fresh and so clean), she returned to work with the ultimate present…

And while it’s hard to make a cake decorator a cake and all, Jenny, our fantabulous barista and a sometimes assistant to the manager, took it upon herself to create the cake of Rachel’s dreams.
